http://www.alternet.org/news/143007/why_right-wing_demagogues_are_tying_to_peddle_ludicrous_conspiracy_theories</p>

Great article on the insanity of conspiracy theories and the ones who support them in the USA.

Some quotes:

"With a wink and a nod, right-wing apparatchiks are networking with the apocalyptic Christian right and resurgent armed militias — a volatile mix of movements awash in conspiracy theories. Scratch the surface and you find people peddling bogus conspiracy theories about liberal secular humanists, collectivist labor bosses, Muslim terrorists, Jewish cabals, homosexual child molesters and murderous abortionists."

"This right-wing campaign is about scapegoating bogus targets by using conspiracy theories to distract attention from insurance companies who are the real culprits behind escalating healthcare costs."

"The core narrative of many popular conspiracy theories is that “the people” are held down by a conspiracy of wealthy secret elites manipulating a vast legion of corrupt politicians, mendacious journalists, propagandizing schoolteachers, nefarious bankers and hidden subversive cadres. This is not an expression of a healthy political skepticism about state power or legitimate calls for reform or radical challenges to government or corporate abuses. This is an irrational anxiety that pictures the world as governed by powerful long-standing covert conspiracies of evildoers who control politics, the economy, and all of history. Scholars call this worldview “conspiracism.”"

Power of Nightmares taught me that the right will do almost anything to get their way.

That's true aaronmhatch, but the presidency of George W Bush taught me the left (slightly less than far right in America) will say almost anything to sound right, even support conspiracy theories.

I doubt the left would support conspiracy theories that say Obama is a Muslim or a re-born Egyptian pharaoh. Not to mention that Satanists run the world and so on...Maybe they "support" some theories, since crazy people are found in all camps, but come on. The right is far worse and more dangerous with their religious nonsense than the left is. This was seen when Bush was in the office.

That seems to ring true with what my dad says:

"The liberals talk, and the conservatives do."

What liberals?

Healthcare Reform, passed.

Wall Street Reform, passed.

Seems like "doing" to me.

I can never tell whether conservatives are mad because liberals do nothing, or because liberals do too much.

One minute its CREEPING SOCIALISM! the next its "liberals do nothing."

Why expend so much energy on people you believe do nothing?

In my opinion conservatives in the US have a fundamental problem sharing power with anyone who doesn't agree with them. Decision making by anyone but conservatives is, by definition, not legitimate. A republic is all about sharing power with people who don't agree with you.

Liberals aren't quite as bad about that. Not that they aren't frustrated too when things don't go their way, but at least until the 2000 election they were generally not out there denouncing conservative leaders as illegitimately in power.

Agreed 100%.

I always say conservatives don't hate America, they just don't want to share it with anyone.

>> I doubt the left would support conspiracy theories that say Obama is a Muslim or a re-born Egyptian pharaoh.

I heard things like "Bush is going to try to stay president after he isn't elected" plus all of the "OMFG STOLE THE ELECTION STUFF" and when it came to 9/11 conspiracy theories, many promoted them just because they wanted to make Bush look bad -- these people people on the very far left.

Fox News today when it come to Obama reminds me of MSBNC when Bush was president; basically I can't/won't watch something that spends 90% of their time making fun of someone, it's retarded as hell. Making fun of Obama or Bush is a colossal waste of time and only is really a way to appeal to idiots in your audience.

The Daily Show has it's moments, but sometimes like when Jon Stewart just stares at the camera, that's not really funny. I got sick of the Bush stuff by 2003, and I got sick of the Obama stuff even before he was president because everyone kept calling him a Socialist. That's an insult to Socialists.
