Incredibly subjective to where the violence takes place.

Tribes in Africa live violently and have done so for centuries, to this day.

Well, then the trend is that the more advanced a region is, the less violence of necessity takes place.

Sociopaths and such killed back then, and kill now, although growing up in a poor environment does play a factor.

I would agree, which is why I don't understand why we need revolution.

Not everyone wants it.

Example: Africa

Honestly, I think the biggest mistake we make is thinking we're any different from ancient people, we're almost genetically identical. I know that we have a high and mighty view of our own culture, but in reality put in the right circumstances, be it to help a starving man on the street, be a gas chamber operator, purge China of counter revolutionaries, kill the Hutus, etc. we'd all behave based on our circumstances.

Humans are cable of a wide variety of behaviors, I think the mistake people make is assuming we aren't like ancient people, or Germans during the holocaust, or the Chinese communists, etc. it leads people to believe they're incapable of doing the wrong thing -- in Iraq or Afghanistan for example.

In some ways we're more violent than ancient peoples, but in many ways we're more civilized as well. Switch the circumstances, if they would have been more educated, better fed, healthier just as we are, and then given modern weapons, would they be any different at all? I hardly think so.

I'm actually very liberal in many places.

Poignant, but true. I've been increasingly more critical of tradition ever since I saw how just how ridiculous tradition and religion can be.

Curious, but what did you think of The Joker as seen in The Dark Knight?

A pale shadow of Jack Nicholson.

I couldn't stop thinking about his days as a gay cowboy. I imagine he changed because his lover died.

Well, The Joker (Dark Knight) had the idea of people "only being as good as the world allows them to be."

Would you agree?

@Matt
Have not seen that Batman movie, so I can't give an opinion. :3

I'm not sure I can put any value into that statement. What does that even mean? Can you give an example of how society determines how good you can be? And what are you driving at with your question?

I think the Joker is a stupid Hollywood character and shouldn't be used for anything beyond that.

> We just need to spread advancement to more places, then.

Agreed.

That is the revolution I have in mind.. to advance people, as I'm noticing in the west, we are going backwards not forward in the general population as far as advancement goes in the last few decades..

> Not everyone wants it.
>
> Example: Africa

People I know from/in Africa appear to want it as much as we do!

Often more so..

You know in some places, they are more advanced than we are..

I notice countries can often go up in their desire to want it, and then slide back down..

It interests me to understand why some countries don't seem to slip back down, Switerland for example, why is it not like the north of England!

LOL

I've a rather good friend in Uganda if you must know. (His name is Ron incidently, if you must know, he did a degree course in economics, and was most interesting to debate with.)

There are a few countries I don't seem to know anyone from, North Korea being one of them..

Whilst the subject of Uganda comes up, an interesting story he told me once about the place that doesn't appear to get much mention outside of the country:

If you go there and see rusty cranes with prefab concrete sections still swinging in the wind, above unfinished apartment blocks, and wonder the reason for that, its because:

An Isreali company was paid to put up some buildings, but in the dead of the night, they was stealing soil from the country and shipping it back in planes!

When it came time to pay the company, the president refused to hand over any more money and told them, give back our soil you stole and I'll pay you what I owe you, or get out of my country..

Really, its a wonder you have any friends at all Matt..
