Well, hey, it's the first topic I've made. Posting this just because....well, I don't understand these guys one bit sometimes. Here we have a Facebook deal made about the US Constitution...and CTs spamming all sorts of IT ALL STARTED WITH THE FEDERAL RESERVE GETTING THEIR SLIMY FEET IN THE DOOR stuff.

You should see the White House fan page, it's nutty as hell.

>> Well, its been more unstable since 1913, with the fiat currency of the Federal Reserve (which is not constitutional while we're on the topic.) Prior to 1913 there had been financial panics and recessions, but these typically lasted about one year.

I guess the panics and depressions that ravaged the 19th century were all a part of stability? I guess when you can count on massive economic problems, yeah, that is stability in a sense.

Prior FRS: 1792, 1796–1797, 1819, 1825, 1837, 1847, 1857, 1866, 1873, 1884, 1890, 1893, 1896, 1901, 1907, 1910-1911... and there are more in there as well.

After FRS: 1929-1939, 2007-2010

After the removal of metal backed currency: 2007-2010

HOW WILDLY UNSTABLE!

If we're fair and span over the same amount of time:

[ 97 years of free banking ] 1819, 1825, 1837, 1847, 1857, 1866, 1873, 1884, 1890, 1893, 1896, 1901, 1907, 1910-1911

[ 97 years of Federal Reserve ] 1929-1939, 2007-2010

I can't wait until we got back to the paradise of the 19th century, with no minimum wage, no central banking, no child labor laws, et al. At least we'll be more free than we are now... somehow.

I bristle every time I hear or read "fiat currency" from otherwise normal folks who don't appear to be CTs. You know what will come next if you ask about the Federal Reserve.

I can just imagine the White House fan page. SEEKRIT MOOSLIM BIRF CERTIFICATE ILLUMINATI

"You are correct Steven. The Founding Fathers kept out the Fed Reserve for approx. 200 years. That's when this country prospered. As soon as the Fed Reserve, which IS NOT a Gov. entity, began to print, and set value, to money, the problems started. Woodrow Wilson sold out this country many years ago."

Ah yes, the golden age of American Prosperity! On top of being infallible, it's nice to know that the Founding Fathers also lived to be around 200 years.

@Ninja R: It really makes me rage that pretty much anytime a CT wants to segue from mundane topics to fringe lunacy, it starts with "fiat currency", "Federal Reserve isn't constitutional" and "Woodrow Wilson sold out/regretted his decision". Grr.

Edit: The thing is, most people that you would find on a random facebook group have no/little understanding about the Fed or Fiat Currency or the false quotes attributed to Wilson, so they most likely aren't going to challenge it and will just accept it. Then when someone actually does challenge it like the fellow who stated:

"Let me get this straight. Our economy was great before 1913, and our economy has been horrible since 1913."

Then the CT has to amend his statement, something like this:

"Well, its been more unstable since 1913, with the fiat currency of the Federal Reserve (which is not constitutional while we're on the topic.) Prior to 1913 there had been financial panics and recessions, but these typically lasted about one year. "

Literally everything in that entire statement is wrong.
