An interesting topic. Many people are saying that the US dollar is bound to collapse soon enough, some say 2014, some say 2016 or 2017. This is something that I actually don't know very much about so I'd love to hear some opinions. Why do you think (or not think) the US dollar will collapse? I tried to search for the last time this happened but all I get is different sites explaining why its bound to collapse soon. I don't have a personal opinion on this yet because i still don't know much about this topic. Still trying to find informative sites on the subject

People have said every year that the US dollar is going to collapse soon. Some said that the US dollar was going to hit a recession this year, and we have about a month to go in the year, and I think we're ok, no?

This is also a good example of a CT believer saying that the dollar was going to collapse in 2010:

I think Ive found out the last time it happened. I believe it was in 2008, but that was nothing compared to the great depression decades ago. I'll check out that link in a bit Clock. Some people are linking the DHS stack up of ammo to this proposed collapse. Which I guess makes sense, once those bills are worthless people will just start breaking the windows to shops and grabbing the stuff themselves. How do you combat that? well that's an easy one. But then again, the dollar would have to collapse first before that could happen, and if it doesn't, well then, there goes that theory

and yeah ive seen some links that said it would happen this year, well there's only a month left in 2013 and it hasnt happened yet, like you said

It makes some sense to me but first we'd have to establish that the dollar IS bound to collapse, and so far it hasn't happened despite the warnings literally every year that it will this year or that year or next year etc.... I still don't have an opinion on this though. Not a subject that I'm well-versed in (or versed in at all)

update: I just remembered that the 1.6 billion bullets purchase from the DHS was for over a course of several years, meaning not all of the ammunition reaches them at once. Plus I'm pretty sure that they DO use hollow point rounds for training because they have to train with whatever they would use in an actual situation.

I personally don't think the dollar is going to collapse anytime soon. I could be wrong, but from what I can remember the value of the dollar comes from the people having faith in the dollar. Basically, the people believe that the dollar has value. The only chance the dollar has to losing its value is if people lost faith in the dollar sometime soon, if the government collapsed or if people lost faith in the government (it's important for something like this to happen to the government in order for the dollar to collapse since the government is the one that releases the dollars and made them legal tenders). The government is stable as of now and no one anyone that's lost/losing faith in the government is a small minority that doesn't affect the rest of the world so I would think the dollar is a-ok.

I don't have high hopes about the US dollar's future, but by no means do I think these people who sit on the boards of the Federal Reserve banks are as clueless as the doomers think. They know what will happen if they engage in hyperinflationary actions and they have a lot to lose from doing it.

This isn't Zimbabwe, ffs.

I better clarify. I'm not holding my breath for hyperinflation or an economic collapse.

I am unfamiliar with any kind of credible argument in favor of USD collapsing. Black Swan events are always possible, so I don't think a measured "Be prepared" approach* is as fringe or paranoid in terms of utility as other skeptics might, but I'm not actually expecting hyperinflation.

I'm not expecting a Dollar collapse anytime soon either, every single year is another failed prediction. But what determines whether or not the dollar collapses? what are the factors? I'm curious

Did some more searching today to learn more about what typically happens when an economic collapse happens, etc... and unfortunately there's always gonna be a conspiracy theorist website disguised as a normal one. Ran into two different posts from teh same site while trying to do some proper searching:

This one pertains to the topic of this thread: http://thecommonsenseshow.com/2013/07/12/what-does-a-currency-collapse-look-like/

this one claims martial law is already declared in the U.S: http://thecommonsenseshow.com/2013/07/11/the-us-is-under-martial-law/

"This past spring, DHS authorities declared "Bible believing Christians" to be domestic terrorists" - umm, ok well, proof? where's the text or video that proves this? why do they care if you're Christian? they haven't seemed to care at all these past however many years.

you can never fully avoid shit like this unfortunately, when it comes to the internet. I hate christian conspiracy websites like that one

update: since I can't seem to find any non conspiracy theorist pages that describe what could happen immediately following an economic collapse, I 'll ask here. I'm trying to learn more about this, not that I think there will be one anytime soon, but I try to find background info anyway.

What could logically happen once an economic collapse were to occur? What would be the smart thing to do in the event of this (both before and during the collapse). Many sites say that you should stack up on gold because that will be worth lots, yet there are few comments that actually state that gold wouldn't be a good idea in the event of a collapse.

This should help you understand what happens after an economic collapse:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Financial_crisis_of_2007%E2%80%9308#Effects_on_the_global_economy

If the US economy would collapse, it would probably be like it was in 1929. People working in stock markets would freak out, people would be layed off, and there would be lots of unemployment. As they say, looking at events of the past can help us understand possible events in the future.
