I had an argument with a friend today, talked about Sam Harris "inventing" his own religion. I said that people don't give a damn about content and logic if you use the right advertising and package old self-help crap with a little life purpose and wrap it up in metaphysical nonsense.

My theoretical con-man would use the Chaos Gods from Warhammer 40k, not for any particular reason, I just stumbled upon the game recently, while he argued he could make more money selling people "basic" CT stuff like movies, food, magic rods (to find water, oil, jesus, drugs) anti-electro smog pads, anti-ghost bullshit, and so on.

I, on the other hand, am left with Workshops, Charities (the world is going to end, so give up your money to the chaos!), think in the direction of scientology.

Imagine that you had no moral code whatsoever, a few grand for advertising and "R&D" and basic salesmanship skills to persuade people to buy your stuff, which one would you prefer?

(I'd still take religion, I think it's easier to get dumb rich guys with "your life lacks purpose!" than "evil guys rule you!")

Religion wins for me, huge market, harder to disprove completely with science[If you believe it], is a much more lucrative market in the sale of media, and also you can control people with moral dogma and make them buy your material because internet streaming and downloading is bad.
