Don't mess with my milkshake!
If you know my family “in real life” or “in the blogosphere,” you know that we do not frequent McDonald’s or other fast food chains. Not that we don’t go there at all – a McDonald’s milkshake is a traditional highway rest stop treat on long car trips, and I’ve been known to swing the kids by Chik-fil-A when J is traveling … although this news about Chik-fil-A’s opposition to same-sex marriage makes me question whether I want to support their position indirectly by dining there.

That’s a post for another day, though; today I’m writing about the shock I received last weekend when I impulsively suggested we pop in to McDonald’s for milkshakes. Instead of the traditional “Plain Jane” shake I’ve know since childhood (pictured above), we got dressed-up and down-sized McCafé Triple Thick Shakes. These were served in much smaller clear plastic cups, topped with whipped cream (or “whipped topping” anyway), and a maraschino cherry.

Huh?!

What happened to my milkshake!? These McCafé shakes have clear domed tops with an opening for a straw (it’s hard to suck a maraschino cherry through a straw!), and my kids missed those tiny white plastic bubbles that you can press down (to indicate COLA, RB, OTHER, etc.). Yes, we are traditionalists, and we don’t like this change! Forget the fancy-schmancy McCafé … bring back my comfort food milkshake!

And do it before Shamrock Shake season arrives, please!

McDonald's milkshakes used to be good, but in the last few years, no matter where I go, they always taste like they've got cleaning solution in them. So, who cares? They're fucking garbage.

"You love this new milkshake with a cherry on the top. The old milkshakes made you sick anyway, you are better off with these new ones they taste better."

The McCafe shake seems to have a lot less shake in it than the old ones. I'd rather have more shake and less cream and cherry.

To me the McDonald's Milk shake did not need retouching however since McDonalds decided to to compete with starbucks I get the feeling their attempting to re-brand their Milk shake by calling it a McCafe as well changing the look to it. I suppose they must of had a drop off in sales when it comes to the milk shake so by putting it into the McCafe category it'll ride the McDonald's coffee wave which I imagine they pumped in a lot of money to get that brand popular.
