I'm sick of the emails about how North America is going to be destroyed by this...

If the Persian Gulf coasts weren't destroyed by Hussein's oil dumping in 1991, neither will ours.

I heard a conspiracy promoted a few days after the rig blew up -- Michael Savage was purporting *it was possible* the rig had been torpedoed by Iranian or North Korean subs. Much like most CTs, he appended this with, "I'm just looking at the possibilities and keeping an open mind." Wish I could source the info further, but the broadcast date was either May 29 or 30...probably the 30th.

@Matt:

Shaking down BP to compensate people for their damages doesn't stop the oil gusher. BP has had extraordinary incentives to solve this problem, but everything it has tried has failed.

@atheist,

"Shaking down" is hyperbolic. Are you going to call Obama a "Chicago thug" next? :P

If BP had not cut corners, I would be a bit more forgiving. But just because something was allowed under a previous administration does not mean it is going to be allowed in this one. I'm not some shrieking moonbat who wants BP blood, but they fucked up and should pay for it.

@Edward,

I dunno how you can listen to that crap. I used to listen to Media Matters for America's podcast just to get a small taste of right wing media and even that was too much. Shit is awful. All it accomplished was pissing me off and I got nothing out of it.

At least when I torture myself with CT and TZM shit I know it doesn't really matter in Realifeistan.

Since the toxic rain never came to destroy North America, now CTs are claiming that the heat of the oil is going to melt the crystallized methane and cause the world to explode. They don't mention that it isn't crystallized because of the cold, but rather because of the pressure, and they have yet to explain how 500 degree oil changes water pressure.

As I posted on Facebook regarding this: It just occurred to me, if the heat of the oil is going to cause all of these problems, what about the heat of underwater volcanoes and volcanic vents, which are much hotter? Surely, these would have done far more damage in the past, and caused the same problems, if the oil is going to.
