are my standards getting higher?

Out of the three most recent mails I got, I didn't find one talk I'd call overly convincing and some that I'd put in the "work on it some more and come back" category that I thought was what TEDx was for.

I remember some really good talks about complex ideas condensed into basic, but interesting "teaser" bits that made me pick up the corresponding books, but that seems to be the exception now.

Nerdy people, opinions please.

TED pretty much sucks ass. Don't let the occasional video from Pinker or Shermer fool you.

It may have been doomed to failure as from what I know TED does not really have a good peer review process of the content that goes on there. Just because it may be popular doesn't make it credible in a academic sense. So for example I bet Lady Gaga could get on TED to promote dresses made out of meat but I doubt a nobody could try and pitch dresses made out of meat being environmentally better unless of course their popular.

Like with any good and new thing, it rocked at first because it was exclusive now they need to fill schedules and the TED-lite version has no controls or credibility at all.
