Edward and others,

If you could recommend books or websites to people, which would you choose? For example, for someone interested in how the fed works, I doubt you'd recommend Ron Paul's "End the Fed." What would you suggest instead? Other topics of interest include:

- a comprehensive outline debunking 9/11
- economics 101
- the history of socialism and communism
- American history (is A People's History of the US by Zinn a good choice?)

Anything you suggest would be appreciated.

-Dying to Win by Robert Pape for anyone claiming that Al Qaeda is a "fictional group." While not totally concerned with al Qaeda, it does a great job of putting the logic and history of suicide terrorism together.

-Global Capitalism by Jerry A Frieden does a great job of explaining "globalization" and the history of the international markets creation and problems

I'm not much of an American historian, and for the history of socialism and communism I really recommend reading primary documents to understand how thinking in those movements evolved. Rosa Luxembourg, Karl Marx, and even some Soviet leaders would be interesting to look at. Just remember that communism and socialism were never totally united, homogenous movements, so you'll have to read a lot to get a full grasp on their theories. I know I still am (5 years later!).

Best of luck with the reading, let me know if youre interested in an International Relations or Cultural Anthropology. Surprisingly, these fields help show just how absurd CTs really are.

Thanks for the recommendations. I have read Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto - it's amazing to consider how such a short writing has had such an impact on the world.

As for International Relations and Cultural Anthropology, they seem dry to me. However, if they help disarm CTs as well as you say, I would be interested in looking into it.

Off the top of my head, you might want to give Moral Minority by Brooke Allen. That ties into American History, but not sure if it's what you're looking for.

Actually, Manifesto is one of Marx's weakest writings. All of his real arguments are formed in Das Kaptial, which includes his evaluation of values and human dignity. The IR and Anthro stuff is really more dense than anything. "International Politics" by Art Jervis is a good place to start. Its kind of "IR 101" but a good start

"God, I still have nightmares of having to write about Theses on Feuerbach."

I wish I could "like" this.
