The hour of the apocalypse came quietly and went the same way — leaving those who believed that Saturday evening would mark the world's end confused, or more faithful, or just philosophical.

Many followers said the delay was a further test from God to persevere in their faith.

Surprise, surprise.

Wait for 2012 to come that's when these groups will disband from all the crazy BS in my opinion.

I think they will just change the date or latch on to new apocalypse scenarios.

Completely unlikely Bill, you seem to not understand the power of a belief system, or you are being overly optimistic. The problem with your statement is you think that the people who believe are going to rationalise the failure of their belief and suddenly see sense.

Most of the hardcore people will as proven above change the goalposts of their claims to fit their belief system. So when it fails to come about they will concoct a whole new set of claims and beliefs about another date or happening somewhere else in the future. Being that this is based upon a calendric cycle and change into a new age, they are likely to state that it will happen anytime in this new age.

The sympathisers who havent really looked deeply into it but have jumped on the bandwagon will be the types to drop off, but as soon as another date and storyline is set that fits their preferred belief system they will begin to group up again on this new dateline and story.

Too much emotional investment in their belief to see that they've been conned. Sort of like Zeitards.

The planet's been around for billions of years, humans for, what - 100000 years? Yet morons believe we are significant enough to actually matter. Also, funny how many apocalypses should've happened within this tiny timeline since we evolved into sentient beings.

Eventually as is always the nature of the universe we will face a cataclysm that threatens humanities existance, it has happened in the past and is likely to happen in the future, but the irony of this is that hardly anyone will be around to say "I told you my prophetic vision was right". This event wont be some human derived end of world prophecy, it will be the natural order of the planet/universe in operation.

Doomers rely on this to put the fear into people, its actually very twisted that they fantasise and preach for it to happen to this planet sooner rather than later.
