CDC 'Zombie Apocalypse' warning crashes website; it was all about hurricanes, anyway

The Centers for Disease Control -- which did surface as the backdrop for the last two episodes of AMC's "The Walking Dead" -- got more than it bargained for on Thursday (May 19) when it mentioned a "zombie apocalypse" in a blog post about hurricane preparedness.

Maybe we're all just more sensitive to a possible coming zombie invasion now that an apocalypse of some sort is predicted for Saturday (May 21). The CDC is aware of our heightened sensitivity and, it seems, using it in a bid to make Americans more aware of how to prepare for the coming hurricane season (which makes, like, zero sense since it starts June 1 -- several days after Judgment Day. Duh.)

"If you prepare for the zombie apocalypse, you'll be prepared for all hazards," CDC spokesman Dave Daigle told Reuters.

The website typically sees under 3,000 hits per post, but by the time the CDC's server had crashed the post mentioning zombies had logged over 60,000 hits and was a trending topic on Twitter.

So, anyway, about those hurricanes: make sure to keep plenty of potable drinking water, food and medications on hand. The same advice applies in the event zombies attack and we're forced to barricade ourselves inside our homes.

And, for the truly concerned, the site is back up and running as of this writing.

According to the YouTubes, if we had an RBE, zombies would never happen.
