yes, I've been around for the last couple of days, but my eye didn't catch the intro section.

I came across this site around August of last year. At that point in my life, I knew Alex Jones was 100% full of feces for a long time. I was messin' around on the "Obama Deception" youtube comment section and I needed some material (why in the hell would I want to dig that crap up all by myself?), so I came here. It was good for a laugh. I always saw Edward talking about the FB group, but I just can't stand FB. Now, I see that his forum has really taken off. It's a pleasure to meet everyone.

I have dabbled in a wide array of wacky ideologies/religions, including LaVeyan Satanism, bizarre new age crap, end of the world crap, a smidge of Christianity, poser Buddhism, and various monistic beliefs. Most of this I came to believe with no or very little outside influence other than <alcohol/shroom/whatever was floating my boat at the time> fueled discussions with my equally f'd up friends. I have abandoned all of the above mentioned things ('cept for the booze), and for good reason.

Oh yeah, and conspiracy theories.

Also, I once believed that all life on Earth descended from microbial organisms that came here on meteorites that fell to the Earth's surface sometime prior to the Precambrian explosion. Here is one person who believes these things.

(not related) I used to go to dirty hippie festivals...fun times, too many hippies.

Also, I'm nerdier than you because I can make music on an original Nintendo Gameboy.

http://www.myspace.com/spasticnature</p>

I like death metal, "classical" music, jazz, GOOD rock/pop, and million different kinds of electronic music. I feel very strongly about music. My taste is better than you as a person.

I'm also geekier than you because I attend retro game cons, such as MAGFest

big thanks to Edward for making this site.

What kind of Jazz artists? Define "GOOD rock/pop" by listing good bands. :P

@ Muertos ... In no order: Spawn of Possession, Decapitated, Death, !T.O.O.H!, Cyaegha, the Faceless, I sorta like Origin. I also like earlier stuff...early Metal Church, Iron Maiden, a little slayer. tons more, just naming a few.

@ Sil : I LOVE Django Reinhardt and manouche in general, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, and many others. I use the term "jazz" very loosely. Different kinds of fusion, super modern "jazzy metal", and jazz influenced electronic music. Also, I happen to play quite a bit of Scott Joplin's work on piano.

The pop/rock thing is far more difficult for me to understand. I use this term very loosely, as I think everyone should. Very random. The Beatles, The White Stripes, Hendrix, Zeppelin, Gorillaz, Gomez, Primus, Nirvana, Oingo Boingo, Chili Peppers (even the newer stuff), Prodigy (K, so it fits in electronic as well), I secretly like Lady Gaga (fuck I blew my cover), Velvet Underground, and many many many more.

I enjoy hip-hop as well: Aesop Rock, Blackalicious, early 90s gangsta.

@ Ed: thanks, made my day.

You listed some great bands, but in true debunker fashion I have to nitpick and point out that Metal Church and Iron Maiden are not death metal. Metal Church is thrash and Iron Maiden in NWOBHM.

My favorite death metal: Dismember, Morbid Angel, Immolation, Six Feet Under. Favorite metal in general: Iron Maiden, Manowar, Gamma Ray, Rhapsody of Fire, Stratovarius, Edguy, Moonsorrow.

Glad that I'm not the only metalhead here!

I also like jazz and especially the old school stuff you mentioned, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, and I like big band stuff like Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller too.

lofi: Great music, great presentation etc. Welcome!
Also, do you enjoy IDM?

"My favorite death metal: Dismember, Morbid Angel, Immolation, Six Feet Under."
Which Dismember album do you prefer?

"Favorite metal in general: Iron Maiden, _Manowar_"

Nothing wrong with Iron Maiden, Manowar however...

So much cheese, you might have a heart attack.

Yes, I'm aware that Iron Maiden & Metal Church are not death metal :) It'd be tough to argue that modern death metal was not influenced by those bands though. Just figured I'd list it 'cause well, I guess I was also just talking general metal w/ clarification. Forgot I was on a skeptic's board. how could I have forgotten Morbid Angel? I never forget them. Cannibal Corpse also.

I'm still not 100% sure how people define IDM, but I've liked Aphex Twin for many years, boards of Canada, Little-Scale ( I would argue that he's sorta IDM, no one's heard of him though. All of his music is free...he came out with an EP called "Office Yoga Made Easy" that mixes in some of those strange rhythms), and Amon Tobin. DnB, Jungle, etc.

Manowar is great. Don't listen to the Manowar haters, they're just reptilians.

@ Northground: "Like An Ever Flowing Stream" is my favorite. I also like "Death Metal." Dismember never changes (except with the possible exception of "Massive Killing Capacity") so you're basically guaranteed the same sound from album to album.

Oh Manowar... what a love/hate relationship we have.

Astonishingly enough, there actually is an overlap between conspiracy theories and Manowar. A tenuous one, I grant you, but just to make sure we stay on topic and Edward doesn't boot us out for discussing cheesy metal bands, Manowar did do this song:

(There are a few people who believe in Jonestown conspiracy theories, though I've never had to debunk one).

Also, if we want to make this thread about alternative theories...has anyone ever given consideration to the idea that all life on Earth came from microbes that rode here through space on meteors billions of years ago? I think it's nonsense, but I was pretty convinced for a while. I'm not much a science guy though.

On the topic of metal and conspiracy theories: I believe Dave Mustaine is a big fan of Alex Jones... Megadeth's Endgame album (or at least the song) is based off the movie if I recall correctly. Thrash isn't my cup of tea at any rate.

@ Sil:

He is. I just got into an argument recently with a guy on a metal board I post on who's an AJ groupie, and he was trying to validate Old Leatherlungs's bullshit by saying that Dave Mustaine believes in it.

Of course everyone knows Dave Mustaine is a raving lunatic, as well as the biggest asshole in metal.

I'm not a huge fan of thrash either. Power and death metal are more my speed.

@lofihigain

Panspermia isn't that weird of an idea, a similar idea is that the building blocks of life developed in comets and were brought to Earth. The latter seems highly likely from what I've read about it thus far.

Yes, that's what it's called! I was trying to think of it...

This is one of those ideas that I thought seemed plausible. I looked for articles, but I couldn't find anything of reasonable quality. this was years ago...03 maybe.

Either way, it began somewhere.

It's an interesting idea, definitely. I wish I had something to add though.

So, the tiny little germ things could have flown through space on big balls of dirty ice? I mean that seriously, because that's the kind of language I use to understand these kinds of things. For me, the remote plausibility of it hinged on a few things, like the ability of microscopic lifeforms to survive not just in the deep freeze of space (I have no idea how cold...or possibly hot it could be)?, but also the unfathomable distance and...I have no idea, what other forces are involved here?

The idea that these objects could support life just seemed kinda crazy to me, I don't really know much at all about those big rocks flyin' around out there, maybe I'll check it out again.

EDIT: Youtube user sarastarlight, who promotes this theory, also believes in the steady state universe theory. This one is more mind boggling to me than the relativity of time and space (that's what the theory suggests, right?). I just can't comprehend the idea of infinity, and a..."relative" universe puts that idea off for me.

That's been disproven time and time again, even Einstein, who desperately wanted to believe it, was wrong about it. It's not any more believable to me than astrology, both used to be accepted science, now they're just stupid.
