One, UChicago has among the most rigorous core education programs. Students are required to take classes across disciplines in a very serious way and you will not be given any slack in any field. The premeds take Chem, Organic Chem, Bio, Physics, as well as a slew of electives in the sciences. When you are a premed you have a premed advisor who helps you meet the requirements of entry into med school, but you actually major in something else (chem, bio, biochem, physics, classics, whatever). Essentially Uchicago doesn't take bullshit and you work hard.

Brown is a joke because its a "build a major" institution that really doesn't take academic rigor seriously. Of course there are great students who go to brown, but thats true of so many different schools. Just because its in the Ivy doesnt mean its a great school. Remember Omni, you dont know where you'll be in 6 years time. Go somewhere where you can really have a well rounded, and well tailored education.

That sounds like a program I'd take.

Truly, I do not want to bullshit myself by taking something or going somewhere that lets me slide. I'd take an intense, rigorous course in the sciences. It's one thing to want to be in medicine now, with light schoolwork (comparatively speaking), but quite another to keep that passion when having loads and loads of schoolwork. I'd really want to test my resolve my desire to cement medicine as what I want to do. Thanks dude, I'll be sure to ask about UChicago's premed in particular.

lol, why do you hate the pre-meds?

@Omni-Science Try to look at schools where they have a premed back to back with a medical school. It doesn't matter as much where you go but who you know if you know what I mean. So going to a bigger school that may be better educational wise doesn't mean it's better for you. The MD world is about again who you know and expect to network, gather names, connections, and things of that nature because you will be using those people and those people will be using you later down the line.

If your serious about this expect to travel a lot, and be comfortable being out of your norm. Finding a college that goes back to back with premed/medical school is like getting your foot already in the door before the game really starts. You'll get to know a lot of the people and they will know you and if you like their med program you'll be put on the top of the pile.

Omni-Science try to look for jobs as of right now where you can volunteer at or work at where you'll be involved in taking care of people. This will help you build your resume, decide if this is really what you want to do with your life, and teach you how to deal with people. Omni come into IRC sometime and I can suggest a few more things you can do.

If you get to a point where your really serious about this make sure to focus your efforts on the mcat as that will be a deciding factor if you should go to med school or not. If your on the fence about it I'd suggest double majoring or major in a science as you can still get into medical school even if you didn't major in premed it's just a lot more trouble.
