http://www.back2stonewall.com/2011/04/atlas-shrugged-part-one-yawns-and-bombs.html</p>

All week the right wing and and tea party has been hyping and spinning the movie Atlas Shrugged: Part 1 as the little Tea Party manifesto movie that could but after its second weekend in release the box office numbers officially proves it can't and is a bona fide BOMB!

Even despite the fact that Atlas Shrugged expanded from its original release count of 299 Theatres to over 465 Theatres in its second week, Its weekend Box Office fell a whopping -47.9% percent not even breaking a million dollars with a paltry second weekend box office of $879,000 and a 2 week gross of only $3,094,000.

Atlas Shrugged Part 1 cost 20 Million dollars to make and will not even come halfway close to breaking even by the end of its theatrical run.

Looks like the Goverment budget deficit isn't the only thing the Tea Party has to worry about now and all you tea baggers out there better not hold your breath waiting for Part 2 to be made.

Oh wait. Maybe you should.

"Forgive me for asking, but what is Atlas Shrugged about anyway?"

A 1000+ page book by Ayn Rand that celebrates sociopathic behavior.

You can probably go through life just fine without reading the book or watching the movie.

It's encouraged to go through life having never experienced Atlas Shrugged. Even if you are able to look past its ridiculous ideology, the book is just very poorly written. There are no characters, only caricatures. They're either Ayn Rand's masturbatory fantasy of sociopathic Objectivist supermen or whining socialists. No character has any individual voice. One character gives a monologue that lasts, no fucking joke, sixty goddamn pages. And the main character, Dagny, goes from independent working woman to Objectivist rape object -- and even more, she LOVES the transition.

Yes, but how can i properly criticize something without having read/seen it? I can't shit on Rand if people always respond, "did you even read the book?"

It's kind of like experiencing torture just so you can denounce it with full knowledge of its effects -- in the end, not worth it.

God, the speech was so horrible.

I'm the kind of guy who would actually enjoy a long-winded speech if it had power - and maybe, it would convey a philosophy that isn't complete garbage - but I hardly made it through.

@Perry, that analogy would work if some people actually enjoyed torture. So maybe if you replaced torture with S&M, you would see what I'm getting at.

I bet Rand liked herself a little S&M every once in a while.
