Well I suspect there would be a rise in the black market. The wealthy would simply purchase items from the black market.

Google "MTIC fraud". But there are (sometimes very weird) options to legally purchase products through your company(s) and save taxes this way.

I don't think it's much worse than what's happening now though, you can decide not to pay taxes (or only pay few) without any crime involved.

Consumption tax sounds like a great idea, 30% tax on everything I purchase just so we can say "Fuck the IRS!"? Hells yeah boy. I bought this $400 TV for $520.

It's not about saving money, helping people, or doing the right thing. It's an ideological move by people like Neal Boortz who will give anything to stick it to the IRS, Federal Reserve, or Federal Government. They'll run with any solution they can so long as it makes them feel like they're stickin' it to the Man. Libertardians are not unlike junior high school students.

Its the same with people wanting to heavily tax wealthy people. It isn't going to help end poverty at all as the money wont magically end up in their pockets. It is basically just a 'If I cant be rich, neither can anyone else' mindset.

In Germany it's actually proposed as a means to strengthen exports, reduce imports at "dumping prices", increase entrepreneurial activity and reduce the complexity of the tax system.

It would turn the country into a tax haven for businesses though, but I'm not entirely sure if the proponents of the system have a problem with that, as long as they can brag with high employment numbers.
