I really don't understand. Are there camps? Yes or no? Skeptoid talks about it, but they don't fully explain everything. This subject has been bugging me lately if you guys can't tell haha.

FEMA have the power to set up refugee camps in the event of an emergency (such as after Hurricane Katrina). Somehow conspiracy loons have twisted this into concentration camps.

I understand that. But others who debunk them such as Glenn Beck and Popular Mechanics say they don't exist? If I'm not mistaken. And why weren't the camps used during Hurricane Katrina? I know I'm probably coming on as a CT, but I'm just curious.

Glenn Beck most likely doesn't believe in the FEMA camp conspiracy because CT'ers often pick and choose which ones they wish to believe. I'm sure he wasn't talking about FEMA having the power to set up refugee camps, but the conspiracy theory.

I'm not sure if they did or did not use them during Hurricane Katrina, but it could be due to the slow response. Although I'm sure there would of been camps set up during that, as many people had left the city and alot of them had no homes.

When people show pictures of "camps" I see pictures of "emergency shelters."

Some of them are often pictures of prisons too, or basically any building a CT'er thinks looks like a fema camp.

"This subject has been bugging me lately if you guys can't tell haha. "

Yeah, I noticed. :P

From what I remember, I think some of the earliest incarnations of the FEMA camps theory involved National parks. Basically warning people who lived near them that any federal property would then be converted to camps. Then people started finding 'camps' that were already in existence, mostly abandoned warehouses and military bases.

There is a partial list of many of the camps somewhere on this site... kinda hard to find shit sometimes though.

"And why weren't the camps used during Hurricane Katrina?"

I think they did try to do that with the Superdome. One of the biggest criticisms of the way FEMA handled Hurrican Katrina was that it was so unprepared and slow to respond.

There was a resolution in congress that CT'ers were freaking out about that would establish 6 emergency centers on military bases. What they see as concentration camps, a rational person can see as a way to avoid another post-Katrina fiasco.

Thanks. Last what I don't understand, is it the camps shown are actual camps owned by FEMA, why do they have such high security?

No none of the pictures CT'ers show are actual FEMA camps, and in reality like hazmatt said they are 'Emergency Shelters' not camps.

Most of them do have "lists" of FEMA camps, but most aren't anything at all:

If you go through the lists, you'll notice they often mention things like claim vast wooded areas are good for a FEMA camp, so therefore it must be one.
