I do not understand why Julian was on the run. If he didn't do anything wrong he shouldn't be afraid but still needs to be processed by running it makes the situation worse.

He's on the run because he's a paranoid lunatic who actually believes that he will be kidnapped by the "US government" and sent to Gitmo if he goes back to Sweden.

The guy's a nutbar.

That won't happen, he just needs to be processed by the court system that's all. However if Julian is guilty well the that's a different story.

Of course that wouldn't happen. Personally I think someone inventing bizarre fantasies to avoid a rape charge makes the rape charge that more likely to be true.

Matt, I hate to break it to you but the rape charges are BULLSHIT! In no other coutnry in the world is what he did to those women considered to be rape. They BOTH CONSENTED to having sex with him. They allege that he did not wear a condom which in Sweden can be paraphrased as 'sex by surprise'. How many men around the world would be rapists if this law were to be enforced globally?

I'd like to hear more specific details about the rape case against him.

Nutbar or not, I don't think he deserves getting screwed over by judicial shortcomings.

That's if he's not the actual rapist.

If the charges are bullshit, he should have no problem facing them in court.

He presents himself as having all this secret information, appeal to ignorance from someone like Assange falls on deaf ears for me.

Bullshit or not I dont care. He broke the law, he knew that releasing secret documents he would get in trouble. If a trumped up rape charge is just a way to prosecute him it doesn't matter as he broke the law anyway by releasing secret documents. Whether you think it should be illegal or not is irrelevant as he knew the consequences of his actions.

I find his weird paranoid fantasies about people kidnapping him if he went to Sweden ridiculous. Being kidnapped and sent to Gitmo is absurd. Obama wants to close Gitmo, not ship celebrities down there.

From my understanding, Assange is charged with "surprise sex." The women in question agreed to have sex with him when he was wearing a condom. Afterwords when one was asleep, he tried to have sex with her again when he then wasn't wearing a condom. Where I'm from that's called date rape, I guess in Sweden its called surprise sex. There's a big deal between wearing a condom and barebacking it with some creepy Internet dude you have no idea where he's been, so I can understand why he's being charged.

Whether he's some sort of dangerous e-criminal or not, I'm not really sure. He's irresponsible and obnoxious but I don't think making him a criminal will do anything more than feed his ego and superhero image on fringe blogs. Either way, he's not some superhero of the Internet. He's just a self centered creep who date rapes people and posts stuff on the Internet that evidently leads to mass rioting in the Middle East.

His charges were dropped in Sweden, apparently someone made the effort to find a judge who would accept the case in court once more. He is innocent on the rape charge but asshole should pay for disclosing the locations of communication cables and other infrastructure.

Ez, it has been reported that the release of secret documents (up until now) is not a crime in the USA; only the theft of the documents is illegal. This would be one of the reasons that Wikileaks is still able to 'operate'. Australia and most other western nations have laws in place to make the publishing of such leaks illegal. It is the USA's 'liberty & freedom' in the constitution that makes the publishing of such documents not illegal. I could be mistaken though...
