There's no sound evidence that violent video games increase violent behavior in people.

I'd like to speak from personal experience and say that video games applied correctly at a young age can actually reduce the tendency to abuse it.

I've been a gamer since 9. I've learned how to control and manage.

Violent video games make you want to kill people the same way that a cat litter commercial make you want to shit in a sandbox.

There's a P&T Bullshit! episode about violent video games, and it is endlessly hilarious.

But yes, Roxette is correct.

Soccer games do not make me want to play soccer and racing games do not make me want to buy a Porsche just so I can wreck it in turn one at Sebring.

Likewise I've been gaming since my early days and I have yet to take my vengeance in a similar vein to Nathan Drake.

...granted Drake's wise-cracks are awesome...

There has been much discussion about me having seven kids, that said, I will say that all of mine, from 11 down to 1 watch whatever they want, and listen to whatever they want. I have come to find that personal life experience means little to some of you, however, on this subject thats all i have to offer. The rule here is: If I ever receive a complaint from a school or sports official or regulatory body, or if i receive a valid complaint from another adult, I then start regulating content. So far, so good. My kids all excel in school. sports, and social settings, and they watch Family Guy, and play Halo.

My kids are raised from early childhood according to strict structure and standards, so they don't behave in that manner. Usually I don't have to use physical discipline after they are 4 or 5 tops, but in that kids case I would make a massive exception.

Been a gamer since I was really little. So far, I haven't picked up a gun and gone out and shot anyone, plus I'm good with self managing my game time. I did a presentation about this in high school. So far, no credible evidence linking games to violence, as Rox said. I think it's just that games are currently the newest type of popular entertainment - they're still being subject to the same sort of hysteria that television shows and rock and roll were subject to when they were new.

And yes, this would be a great skeptoid episode...

The research isn't looking at whether children mimic the events in the games; rather, they're looking at levels of aggression. That is, they're not looking to see if the kid plays soccer after playing EA FIFA or shooting somebody after playing Doom. They're looking for certain ranges of behavior. For example, if a kid played Doom and then started fighting or becoming more disobedient, then there could be a connection.

There isn't; but we have people in this thread who think that because kids don't play soccer or race cars after playing such games, there is no connection. That isn't how researchers are looking at the topic at all.
