Seriously. Just don't do it. All you do is frustrate yourself and validate their sense of insane persecution.

You're not going to convince someone to not believe something they want to believe. It doesn't matter whether facts are on your side or not.

To be honest, the original reason I converted from CTism was because so many people had refutations for the CT claims. I figured they were probably correct even though I didn't fully research both sides. After I started learning about logic and critical thinking, it came time for me to reject claims that have no evidence. Once that happened, disbelieving CTs became extremely easy.

So, maybe the CTs need to learn about logic? Of course, many of them already understand it, so there has to other factors. Alas, it's really not worth our time unless the CT we're dealing with is connected to our personal lives (family, coworker / boss, RL friend).

Look, some people are fucking crazy. Some people lack the metacognition to have beliefs based on rational, logical ideas.

That's really all there is to it. You can't change them. They'll change on their own or it won't happen at all.

The idea that many of stubborn CTs we deal with have legitimate psychosis is creepy. All that work trying to rationalize with bags of rocks...

I used to think it was funny but now it just annoys the hell out of me.

If I run into somebody like in that efnet chat room, I feel obligated to stand up for logic and reason. It's hard for me to ignore real-time irrationale.

You could say I'm not old enough to get myself away from people like that in my family. I recently got into a debate with my uncle. He's the kind that believe in the rap illuminati bs. I couldn't even take him seriously, but anyway his biggest piece evidence was some video of jay-z talking about "demonic stuff". Also note that he's about 10 years older than I.

No I don't have to. One day he showed me a bunch of shit I already knew. But yeah I'm getting to that point. Theres much more important things I can put energy into.

What a lot of people forget regarding this stuff is that there IS true, scientifically sound research going into some alternative energy.

On my own view, I wish the environmental movement would look at things more skeptically and reconsider nuclear power.

You cannot win, when you point out it is in fact corporations that control most of the media through their campaigns they actually agree but start speaking of illuminati behind all the corporations. It is better to ignore these fringe losers, leave them to their Marlboro lights and fat girlfriends.
