Level: 3 CS Original | I were just talking to someone about the protests in Egypt and although I dont think this is a widespread belief (It really wouldn't suprise me if there was some CT about this). Now he claims that the protests are instigated by the US, Israel and the UK and that a puppet government will be installed. He claims every world event or revolution was done by them which to me sounds alot like a conspiracy theory even if it doesn't involve the Illuminati or the Rothschilds. It basically follows the same mindset of one group of people being behind every event in world history

I shoot you dead. Level: 9 CS Original | Agreed. Sounds basically like the same mindset - one group controls everything, etc. It's horseshit. The people are rioting because of a despotic regime that's been in place about 3 decades. I doubt a 'puppet government' will be installed, especially especially one of Israel. This shows a misunderstanding of the basics of Middle Eastern politics.

Level: 3 CS Original | Thats what I told him, he kept mentioning the 1953 coup in Iran which overthrew their democratically elected leader and brought the Shah into power. Although he seemed to have gaps in his grasp of history as he thought the USA had put the current regime into power.

I shoot you dead. Level: 9 CS Original | Yeah, that's a shaky grasp of history, and is typical of CTers. He is right that foreign governments can and do stick their noses where they really shouldn't, but this is a riot of people. Yeah, I sure believe the US orchestrated this, when there is plenty of anti-American sentiment in Egypt.

Genuine American Monster Level: 70 CS Original | CTs already think Mubarak was a puppet for the United States. So... the United States overthrew their puppet to install a puppet? CTs are so dumb.

Level: 3 CS Original | Well CT beliefs often ascribe a huge amount of power to the people they believe to be behind world events. The truth is really that no individual country or person holds that much power over anything. The president of the United States cant even get a bill passed by himself. If the richest man in the world got sick or had an accident he would be as dead as anyone else. Hosni Mubarak cant keep in power if his people dont want him there. I've heard people saying the Arab dictators are all under control of the US but they dont realise how many governments exist in the world that are not at all supported by the US or are openly against them and yet these regimes stay in power and are still supplied with weapons. Neither the US nor China nor Iran or even Russia really have alot of influence worldwide and people routinely defy them.

I shoot you dead. Level: 9 CS Original | ^That. Dear lord. I can't believe I gave infowars a hit. Topple a puppet to install a puppet. I don't get it. So glad I didn't venture into the comments section. I think it's fair to guess that it doesn't matter what happens in the world, it's always 'them' causing it. I also note the use of mainstream sources, but only when they agree with you!
