A PhD in English Literature doesn't sound that impressive. How does that have any relation to NWO and Illuminati? Besides, plenty of people have PhDs. All they show is that you're somewhat competent and can afford to go to school for several years.

Yes, CT'ers love people who have some form of degree or were once upon a time involved in politics or business because it makes them sound more than just your regular high school dropout welfare nutjob.

What sounds better?:

Alex Jones believes the Illuminati control the world secretly and that 9/11 was an inside job. He's fat, and a high school dropout.

Its pretty clear that the second one will have more appeal and people wont be as quick to brush it off as just some wacko whos upset because he's never been successful. It is a complete logical fallacy though as the content of the claim doesn't change regardless of who is making it. It is kinda the same with the "Engineers and Architects for 9/11 truth" group.
