This tends to go in line with Charlotte Iserbyt's concern in my "Deliberate Dumbing Down" thread.

The only opinion I have is that I ought to go read about Lenin and Marx before jumping to conclusions. The idea of socialism is so easily misconstrued these days.

Ironically the communists lost power in the Soviet Union and in most of its client states just a few years after this interview. So you have to wonder how well this "brainwashing" process worked.

It seems more likely to me that societies have homeostatic mechanisms which resist social engineering and cause regression towards the mean. For example, a lot of intellectuals writing in the late 1960's and early 1970's thought that the social upheavals of the era, caused by a big cohort of novelty-seeking Baby Boomers who all came of age around the same time, would somehow transform America and even create a utopian society. Instead, as the Boomers got further into their 20's, they realized that they couldn't make a living and support a family through countercultural behavior (doing drugs, protesting, following rock bands around the country, etc.), so they cleaned up, got jobs and started to live more like their parents.

Good luck finding any mention of Yuri Bezmenov that isn't a fringe right wing nutball site.
