 Level: 1 CS Original | I've been arguing with a birther over the last few weeks about Obama's eligibility, birth certificate, natural born citizen status, etc. One of the most common themes I run into is that Obama has spent "millions" on legal fees in order to keep his records sealed and court cases from being heard. Here's my problem: I can't find any sources that back up this claim nor any sources that debunk it. Does anyone know where this claim of millions of dollars in legal fees came from? Is is legitimate (I imagine every administration keeps legal teams on retainer)? Thanks for your help. | |||||

 Level: 3 CS Original | I've heard that all US presidents issue an executive order that seals records on them for the duration of their presidency. Most US Presidents have done this from what I heard. I'd say this claim is bogus, I went on Google searching about it but just got alot of idiots ranting on about how he hasn't released his birth certificate or proven he was born in the US even though its clear he did. Besides, if he wasn't African American they would never have asked in the first place, its basically just the same old wingnuts who think Obama is a Muslim, the Antichrist, Going to institute marshal law and FEMA camps, or all of the above. | |||||

Level: 1 CS Original | I agree Ez. One of my favorite, yet ultimately unanswered questions is, have you seen Bush's birth certificate, how about Clinton's? I'm not sure about the executive order. I could be wrong but I think presidents are protected by the same privacy laws as any other U.S. citizen. Therefore, requesting copies of Obama's birth certificate or records would result in the same answer as asking for mine. A polite "no" from the dept. of health, etc. | |||||

My father works in politics and basically smiles and nods when he encounters this sort of thing. I couldn't let it go because I like Obama but next time I see him or get an email I'm telling him I'm not interested. Live and let live, right? | |||||
