I can translate the following:

http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/63191</p>

Proponents of human-caused global warming claim that "cognitive" brain function prevents conservatives from accepting the science that says "climate change" is an imminent threat to planet Earth and its inhabitants.

Into,

Proponents of the hyperinflationary collapse of the American economy claim that "cognitive" brain function prevents progressives from accepting the economic science that says "fiat money" is an imminent threat to planet Earth and its inhabitants.

And, of course, neither side will concede error when its respective apocalypse based on its "frame" doesn't happen.

I'm feeling some cognitive dissonance right now because I think this guy is full of shit, but I am not a linguistics professor. Merely an armchair aficionado.

Liberals are just as capable of being close minded when information conflicts with their ideals.

Ironically, after reading Lakoff's description of the Strict Father Model, I realized that that metaphor better describes how I make moral decisions than the Nurturant Parent Model. For one thing the empathy-speak popular with many intellectuals these days makes my skin crawl. And for another, I've always had the sense that we live in a dangerous world, a world which includes other people I probably shouldn't trust.

That doesn't mean I also have to buy into the religious and fringe economic beliefs (e.g., Austrian economics) held by other conservatives.

""Ideal liberal families are based on nurturance, which breaks down into empathy, responsibility (for oneself and others) and excellence -- doing well as one can to make oneself and one's family and community better.""

That is not how I approach my job as a parent.

Nor is:

""In the ideal strict father family, the world is seen as a dangerous place and the father functions as protector from ‘others’ and the parent who teaches children absolute right from wrong by punishing them physically (painful spanking or worse) when they do wrong. The father is the ultimate authority, children are to obey, and immoral practices are seen as disgusting."

Its a mix of both and I have never had to spank.

I guess maybe my home is not so liberal after all?
