![]() Level: 3 CS Original | Ideally every agency of the government, as well as government contractors, should undergo regular audits and its managers subjected to questioning about their decisions, especially about how they use our tax money. Just because a couple of fringe political figures have proposed auditing the Federal Reserve, doesn't mean they don't have a legitimate request. However, if Ron Paul falls into the "privately owned Fed" camp, then I wonder how he handles the cognitive dissonance. One, if he proposes privatizing as many functions of the government as possible, then why does he consider the allegedly private Fed such a disaster? Doesn't the Fed's example throw his whole libertarian world view into question? And two, why does Paul want to violate the property rights of the Fed's allegedly private owners by abolishing it, even if the Fed operates legally according to current laws? He'd oppose the government's efforts to abolish any other legally operating company. I'd expect socialist Bernie Sanders to propose something like this, but not libertarian Paul. | |||||
