I enjoy listening to (also a HUGE fan of ) Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins etc, but taking what they say literally in regards to militant atheism will get you nowhere. It's perfectly doable to explain why you don't believe in religion without being offensive to those of faith.

I totally understand Matt's frustration in this thread. Why bring up good things about secularism to attack religion? A piece of shit human is a piece of shit human irrespective of their beliefs. For example members of the Westboro Baptist Church vs liberal Christians.

No, that's not democratic and I don't think it would work even if we tried. I just think religion should be abandoned by each individual by their own free choice. Probably not gonna happen any time soon, though.

There exists both secular and religious organizations that do helpful charity work, but neither validates the claim that the other is an adverse organization.

Calling out religious views that are irrational is perfectly acceptable, e.g. jihad, anti-gay beliefs, attacks on science etc. Attacking religion because you think it's stupid is not okay, sure you can do it, but it makes you an asshole.
