I can't stop posting pictures of poop, what the fuck is wrong with me? Level: 5 CS Original | @Snob Goblin it's funny because that lady is reciting stuff from the Kirk Cameron And Bananas youtube, and the bald dude is reciting information from a ted talk video that was pointing out the flaws of the Kirk Cameron And Bananas youtube. That's how the bald dude knew stuff about a wild banana and the domestic banana. I did find it funny the comments he said in between though LOL

I mean it may not be good for your interpersonal relationships to go around bashing religion to all your religious friends and family. But other than that, on principle religion does not deserve any special treatment (i.e. "respect") from any other irrational belief.

Genuine American Monster Level: 70 CS Original | "But other than that, on principle religion does not deserve any special treatment (i.e. "respect") from any other irrational belief." If you want to be a social pariah, by all means take this approach. I on the other hand, do not.

If you want to be a social pariah, by all means take this approach. I on the other hand, do not. " I think that was exactly his point. That religion should be granted "respect" if for no other reason so that you don't become a social pariah.

Level: 9 CS Original | Doesn't sound like anyone is contesting those points. Edit: That wasn't my point. I was just pointing out that your post seemed to be saying what his post was: If you don't give religion "respect" you're bound to be a social pariah. Personally, I don't have a problem with religion or religious folks until they try to prove their faith with science. It's why I don't care if someone is a Christian, but why young earth creationists bug me.

Level: 9 CS Original | Well, I read that as him saying that religion should not deserve any special treatment as compared to other irrational beliefs on the basis of their claims. Not that religion doesn't deserve respect for what it has done. If that's not what he meant, than my mistake for reading it that way.

Level: 5 CS Original | I have a problem with religion when it threads into science as Matt said. I also have a problem when it irrationally finds its way into legislation (i.e. anti-gay laws). Other than that I tend to keep my mouth shut. I wasn't always that way, but I've learned my lesson. It's just not worth it, and it makes you seem like an asshole.

Level: 5 CS Original | It depends on who's mind the religion is affecting. There's probably no harm in the 85 year old Baptist lady who only leaves her house to go to church and to the store. But religion probably is harmful if it's affecting a Jihadist.

I suppose it really depends on the context and situation.

Level: 4 CS Original | I thought you might say something like that, Matt.
So do atheists like Bill Gates. Are you saying that you cannot separate them in that the good that religion does is motivated by their irrational claims? Atheists can still be moral and do good things. I contend it is better to be rational and do good things, than irrational and do good things. Because that irrationality can more easily lead to bad things.
