I think it'll become a lot harder to continue our current lifestyle (which uses petroleum products for almost everything) once easy to reach oil becomes scarce.

There'll still be oil, but it'll be in forms that are harder, more costly energy and money-wise, and more polluting to refine and use.

So, I guess what I'm saying is that it'd be awesome if we went very green before or soon after "peak" oil is reached.

I heard Matt Ridley on a podcast compare doomers to people who say we should buy the current model of the iPad now, because if we wait, all future versions of the gadget will perform worse than the current version.

In other words, if we accept that our economy provides incentives for people to make things better, then does doom necessarily have to happen?

I suggest we adopt the terms peaktard & doomtard from now on heh.

We have to trust our ingenuity as a species, we already have alternatives to oil so I'm thinking we won't have a problem slowly transitioning into a 'green' society.
