I'm curious, has anyone else here read this comic book series by Grant Morrison? It was published by DC's Vertigo imprint from 1994-2000 and it's been collected in seven graphic novels (Say You Want A Revolution, Apocalipstick, Entropy in the UK, Bloody Hell in America, Counting To None, Kissing Mr. Quimper and The Invisible Kingdom). If you've ever seen The Matrix, it essentially ripped off the series.

It's a great series and takes a lot of influence not only from the conspiracy culture of the 90s, but also science fiction, magic, pop culture, etc. The basic premise of the series is that every conspiracy theory is true, but as the series goes on, it goes into pretty interesting directions.

read all except the last collected edition, frankly it surprises me that no conspiracy theorist (particularly the David Icke types) has ever tried to claim Morrison as some kind of hero due the fact that the series focuses on humanity being enslaved by aliens without us even knowing

or alternatively that Morrison is doing the typical illuminati thing of "rubbing it in our faces"

I think it's because the material is just too dense for CTs, so they just look to The Matrix. And the CTs who can understand it probably realize Morrison is having a laugh at their expense.

perhaps they could claim that Final Crisis is intetionally confusing so that we are distracted while the "bankers" enslave us all

Yeah, it wasn't that great. I mean at the time it was pretty neat, but any coolness left conspiracy theorists have destroyed. And the sequels sucked.

I liked the movie, but didn't like the hype surrounding it. And I never liked Reeves. I remember that Matrix spawned a lots of irritating fanboys. I always thought that it was a cool action film and nothing more.
I've never seen sequels, so I can't comment on them.

The original Matrix isn't bad. But, like Fight Club, has been completely run into the ground by fanboys.

The sequels are pretty much shit, especially the last one.

I just enjoy hearing Agent Smith say "Mr Anderson".

I just thought the philosophy in the film was shallow and pretentious. But I guess what annoyed me the most was how everyone thought it was such a mindfuck. Guess I was giving people more credit than they deserved.

Then the sequels blew.

When The Matrix came out, I loved it. Thought it was amazing.

Then I read The Invisibles and watched John Woo's Hong Kong movies. And I realized how much they ripped off from both those two. Plus the love story is completely tacked on at the end. "We've barely spoken but you have to be The One because for some bizarre reason I love you."

One of my favorite lines from the series was when King Mob says, "Chaos sneaks in every time. They can cover the entire world with cameras, but they can't stop the guy who's supposed to be watching the cameras from wanking off or playing the thirtieth sequel to Doom."
