![]() Level: 1 CS Original | The difference between conspiracy theorists and the rest of us, is that our "bullshit detectors" still work. So, to answer your question, j_o_james' "bullshit detector" started working again.

![]() Level: 10 CS Original | As a former CTer its because I realised the people I was trusting for information were liars, frauds, incompetents and ignorant. Those words aren't random insults either they are specific and correspond to every situation I came accross.

![]() Level: 10 CS Original | Sheeeh... where to start! I'll just pick one or two things that jumps to mind about some famous truthers.... Alex Jones lying about what "pull it" meant, saying there were 500,000 coffins prepared by FEMA for martial law. Pretty much all of them for quoting (many many) people out of context, all of them for making absurd contradictory and incoherent claims about what the purpose and methods used in using explosives at the WTC and ignoring the firefighters when they want to. For making statements about things as if they were confirmed facts when they are not at all ($00,000 wire transfer to Atta), for saying Silverstein made money, for having next to no accountability for their own errors and a willingness to believe anyone just because they may agree with them or seem to back up what they believe (for example, Anders Bjorkman (no planer)) I mean I could go on and on this, this is just off the top of my head right now. Its so much worse than I could express without spending a while coming up with a good essay on it (which I might do). I could probably write a freakin book on why I'm not a truther anymore and why they have no credibility whatsoever.

![]() Level: 0 CS Original | Basically, I went for a few years gobbling all the conspiracy information I could. Then it struck me as to why otherwise rational and sensible people couldn't believe the truth that was right in front of their eyes, if they only just connected the dots. In trying to understand these peoples' mindset and why they didn't believe in the conspiracies I did, I went from researching conspiracies to researching the "other side." What I found was that the information I was thinking was the truth turned out to be hearsay, misquoted interviews, speculation, assumptions, blanket statements, misunderstandings, and sometimes even flat out lies. This actually led me to question BOTH sides of the argument, which in turn let me to doing my own fact checking and not simply taking someone's word for anything. Long story short, the "skeptics" provided a more logical and coherent argument that was supported by credible evidence. This web site is a wonderful example. And as far I know, it has not yet been directly debunked by conspiracy theorists. As an aside, this is still one of my favorite YouTube videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IeXdiMz6I0
