I recall reading something about solar flares, and how much they actually do affect us here on earth... but unfortunately can't remember what it actually said. Thoughts on the article?

Also, if you have some links for further reading on solar flares, that would be great.

well when 2012 doesn't show anything, and now 2013, you know they'll come up with some other shit.

I think the "concern" is more about the effect on technologies, then on life forms directly. But yeah, as 2012 gets closer the most common prediction I've been hearing is the "2012 is the start of a great awakening". Probably just because so many different events can be interpreted to fit this.
