Level: 5 CS Original | "I dont think its true or ever likely to be true but my favourites so far are some of david ickes because they're batshit insane. " I agree. Even though I'm not a CT'er anymore, for some reason I can still sit through a two hour David Icke video.

Sleep, Laugh, Type, Skate, repeat Level: 1 CS Original | Most probable is the whole government is keeping UFOs/Future technology stuff under wraps for fear of enemy espionage or fear or whatever. But my "favorite" conspiracy is the New World Order. just because of how broad it is, the many groups that are "fighting" it, the many groups that could be the NWO (illuminiati,Aliens,Corporations,Apple etc.) and the many plans they have for in store for us whether it be stuck in FEMA camps or forced to purchase fast food ridden with population reducing toxins. Like Cambells, lots of possibilities.

Level: 0 CS Original | "Industry conspiring to lower product longevity - don't believe it, but it might be possible" You referring to planned obsolescence? Cause if so, that's not at all a conspiracy theory, and is true in multiple cases. Not industry-wide, but specific companies/markets; mostly in consumer electronics. There's also postponement obsolescence.

Level: 0 CS Original | I studied it a little bit in an economics and labour class last year along with, but I'm not on my laptop to give you the more "scholarly" articles discussing it. If I remember I'll post it up. But wiki has a good enough summary (I know, lol wiki) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned_obsolescence. Another article that talks about it https://www.adbusters.org/category/tags/obsolescence. (Is anti-corporate/anti-consumerist biased though, but the article still stands without it) I can give you a direct example of postponement obsolescence though; where features are deliberately not included or technical improvements not made. Besides cars, where its done to ensure you buy more expensive models, videogames is one I have a lot of experience with, especially sports games (EA sports). Note: I'm not necessarily saying its a bad thing (even though in the videogames industry it annoys me), but that it does happen and is inevitable in a mass production-consumption, capitalist economy.

Level: 9 CS Original | "lol I had a feeling you'd bring up Madden. " Haha, I'm not a fan of sports or sports games myself... but I remember when the NBA 2009 or whatever came out, and all my friends were talking about how there was this really cool online feature that would update the rosters and stats as the season went along. They had mentioned to me before that the only real reason to buy the 'new versions' were because of updated stats and rosters, but with this tool there would be no need. Unfortunately, the updates stop at the end of the season and you have to buy the 2010 version to stay in the loop. So, I can see a little bit of planned obsolescence in that regard, just nowhere near to the extent that TeeZee implied in the other thread.

Level: 12 CS Original | The problem with Madden is that it's now the only NFL video game. If you thought Madden ignored improvements when there were multiple competitors the past decade, imagine how it's going to be now.

Level: 2 CS Original | you should check out the fan hacked temco super bowl for nes.......... They take Temco Super Bowl and hack it every year with updated stats and plays. It really annoys me how gaming does that and the major reason for madden is no joke the day after EA is finished making a game they are working on next years, their is a whole department that decides whats gonna be in the next game while the development team is making the current game. Its a constant never ending cycle.

Level: 0 CS Original | I remember a short story by F. Paul Wilson which put forth the idea that the government conspired to destroy rock and roll music in the fifties, to the point of arranging the accident that killed Buddy Holly and Richie Valens and the Big Bopper, fabricating the evidence that got Chuck Berry thrown in jail, and arranging to get Elvis into the military in order to interfere with his music career. Obviously, there were people in the "establishment" who wanted to see rock and roll gone, believing it was leading America's youth astray. Did they really go to the lengths Wilson's story suggested? I kind of doubt it, but I don't think it's a totally ridiculous idea. After all, rock and roll had turned pretty tame by 1960 or so, largely replacing the hellcats with clean-cut parent-friendly crooners. Was it just market forces behind it, or something more? Also, it seemed a decade or two ago that virtual reality goggles were going to be the next big thing, but they never really took off. Someone I know believes that they were causing breaks from reality in people who used them frequently, and were quietly banned. I do think their absence from popular culture is a bit odd, and I suppose I can see how something that submerses you into a game that deeply could affect you mentally. So...maybe? Or was it just something like the Segway that seemed like a good idea at the time, but never really caught on?

Level: 2 CS Original | I think what you said about rock music (minus the conspiracy) could be applied to almost all types of media.... Obviously this was so that more people would be able to see the movie, therefore more money. You see this lots and it would not surprise me if it was happening to the music industry in the 60's. VR glasses IMO were just hype, I got a chance many years ago to try them at a fair, I played Duke Nukem 3d on them, it sucked, you would get a head ache and your eyes would hurt after a while, some even got motion sickness. I think it was one of those things that seemed cool in the movies but wasn't nearly the same in real life.
