While reading "Death of the Liberal Class" I tried my best to like Hedges, but I can't. He has some of the arguments on his side, but, like Robert Wright, he manges to fuck them up to an extent at which listening to him becomes hard, if not impossible.
For instance, defining "socialism" as a more localized, softened form of capitalism or calling critics of religion with certain blind spots for underlying economic and political problems "secular fundamentalists"* might make you popular in modern leftist circles, but they're to vague and methodologically unsound to base actual action plans on. Unless you define action plan to mean "support my local shops and, like, demonstrate against AT&T".

*You might argue that way about Hitchens to some extent, but attacking Harris for being the Qutb of secularism is just ridiculous.
