I saw it on DJ Grothe's facebook page. Here's the description:

Vaccine-autism claims, "Frankenfood" bans, the herbal cure craze: All point to the public's growing fear (and, often, outright denial) of science and reason, says Michael Specter. He warns the trend spells disaster for human progress.

I just finished watching it. It's a very good TED talk. I recommend it. I know TED talks aren't inherently worth a damn...some are good, some suck. This one's good.

Good talk. I think I'm picking up his book, Denialism : How Irrational Thinking Hinders Scientific Progress, Harms the Planet, and Threatens Our Lives.

Anyone here read it?

I think it's a great tool for checking out an author before you buy their book(s). Hearing Sam Harris talk about morals on TED made me buy his book The Moral Landscape, which I have now read twice and plan on reading it a few more times.

I don't like Ted Talk because it doesn't have a system to peer review the crap that goes on there. It also attracts a lot of nut bars who want change the world but can't seem to come up with any of their own ideas so naturally they praise a Donald Trump because of course he knows how to save the world, has a lot of money he inherited and is actually made no gain on the money, and because he's a TV celebratory.

I bought it awhile ago, haven't gotten around to reading it yet though... if this talk is a good indication of the contents of the book, I'm sure neither of us will be disappointed.
