Hey CSers-

My supervisor told me this morning that AmeriCorps funding for THIS fiscal year is indeed on the chopping block, as it were. That means there is a chance I could lose my position with Habitat for Humanity with very little warning, and this would devastate me and the people and community I'm helping, as well as others all over the country, as this program provides vital services in all kinds of things, from affordable housing, to education of inner city kids, to environmental cleanup, disaster response...I could go on and on.

There's currently a 'Save AmeriCorps' petition. I have a link to it, but I won't post it here. If anyone would like to help me out, sign the petition. If you're interested, PM me and I'll send you the link.

So basically Snob was full of shit, pretty much like he was about everything he ever said.

I'll sign it, but I don't think it will really do anything. I'm pretty skeptical about online petitions.

Don't worry about sending me the link, I got it from Facebook and I signed.

Yup. I seriously doubt the bill will make it through the entire process, but I'm still a bit worried now and doing what I can to help save the program. Snob, if you're reading this, you were wrong. My position, which I love and is having a visible impact on this community, area college and high school students, volunteers, and most of all the partner families IS at risk.

And thanks, Matt. I really, really mean that. :)

I'll call my legislators. I don't expect much as one of my senators is Rand Paul whose staffer, whom you can tell from the tone of her voice, rolled her eyes when I requested more funding for NIH.

Thank you, scitops. :) Do you want a link to the petition?

I called my legislators today about an hour ago. I'm glad that Rep. Neal voted against the bill and I called his office to say thanks. From the sound of the staffer at Sen. Kerry's office, I think he's planning to vote against it anyway. He also said they've been getting a lot of calls about that very issue. The staffer at Sen. Brown's didn't make it clear one way or the other, but he was very polite.
