A common theme with CT'ers is that they seem to be envious of people who are successful in life. There are a couple guys on the Facebook page ranting about how the "Elite" are keeping them down and making it so they aren't earning much money.

It is true that some people are born into different circumstances and some may have more options to start with (for example if your family is well established in business), but when you compare people in the 'working class' of the West, they have more options to start with than someone born in the slums of India or in Afghanistan, but anyone can be successful if they work hard enough. It makes me rage a little bit.

What do you guys think of CT'ers views on 'success', etc?

I really think you pretty much hit it spot-on. Some CTers also seem to be downright lazy. This is one of the big things that irks me with CTers, is they claim the 'elite' are repressive and keeping them down, and many of them make little effort to better themselves, their situations, or their communities. It's a weird world view, that seems to 'empower' them on one hand as they think they have seen 'the truth', yet it's incredibly disempowering at the same time as it basically stops them from doing anything meaningful with their time.

That said, there are undeniably problems with high levels of inequality all over the world, but it's certainly not as simple as CTers want it to be.

CTers are the first people to bitch when someone wants to take something from them.

Whether its vague concepts of freedom, taxes, some random thing they think the world owes them. They go nuts. But they expect people who have more than they do to give it up for them. Its garbage.

I know a guy in his 50's with a Ph.D. in physics who used to have some net worth from stock he owned in a biotech start-up company. After his stock lost value and he had some other financial setbacks, he moved back in with his parents and started telling me about the evils of fiat money and the Federal Reserve System. Sound like anyone you know?

As I've pointed out elsewhere, the heroes of zombie apocalypse stories tend to resemble the guys drawn to CT's: Socially marginal men in service jobs who wish something would happen to raise their status.

Hay I happen to like the Evil Dead serises.
But truthfuly I don't think they envy of success; as much as they see in as "illusion". Take thier view of college; a person goes to college to be "dumb". If someone is successful at buissness it is because they "greedy" lap dogs of the "elites". Basicly what we normal people call success is something to belittle according to them.

There was this guy on another forum who blamed his low paying grocery job and the fact that he hasn't been able to make money based on him "knowing the truth".

I've read that people often try to redefine success when they don't become successful in society's eyes... so maybe he was equating his "knowing the truth" with being successful in another way.
